I was very proud to be elected to represent Hayle North on Cornwall Council in 2009. Thank you to all those who supported me. I am a truly Independent councillor working for Hayle and I am determined to represent all who live in this division to the best of my ability and welcome contact from any resident. Over the last four years Hayle has seen more investment, improvement and had a higher profile at County Hall than ever before.

The following pages provide information about me and my work -who I am, my record, links and by clicking above information on current issues which is updated regularly. The Cornwall Council web site will provide information about my attendance and voting record - click here.

I have represented the North Ward on Hayle Town Council for nearly 30 years and continue working to retain Hayle’s individuality while bringing progress, regeneration, and improvement. I ensure that Hayle’s interests are uppermost in all I do, but I am also determined to help build not just a better Hayle but a better, stronger and more unified Cornwall.

At Cornwall Council I have been the Chairman of the Children's Education and Families Overview and Scrutiny Committee, sat on the Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee and the Human Resources Committee. I chaired a panel investigating Safeguarding and been a member of panels looking at Child Poverty, Support for the Elderly and recently Children's Readiness for School. I have been working with two councillor colleagues and officers to write the recently published Cornwall Council Leisure Strategy and chaired two working groups looking at the future of our libraries whose proposals have been fully accepted by the Council which has meant that despite huge cuts in budgets, we have managed to keep all libraries and One Stop Shops open. Since November I have been the Cabinet Member responsible for Localism, Sustainability and Devolution including our Historic Environment and World Heritage Site. In this short time it has not been possible to make enormous changes but i have negotiated and delivered a number of 'real' devolution schemes including the freehold of some properties and I believe, set a new standard for the relationship between Cornwall Council and the Town and Parish Councils across Cornwall. If re-elected I will work to ensure that improvements in communication and a positive approach to this work is developed throughput Cornwall Council.

I am keen to help electors with their issues and problems (case work) so if you have any concerns or questions, or would like to share your views with me, please contact me at council@djpollard.co.uk .

Thank you,

John Pollard
